I created this composition from some of my favorite details from the First Interstate Bank poster series. The series was created in black and white - and I wanted to work an alternative version up with some color. Included in 3X3 Illustration Annual.
This illustrated map and a number of smaller spot illustrations were commissioned by Yankee Magazine for a feature on summertime on the Cape. The article included a complete list of things to see and do.

The Six-Legged Meat of the Future for The Wall Street Journal.
This illustration was created for a spirited article on charter party boat stories for Field & Stream.
Jim Burke art directed this great calendar project and he was able to get an impressive list of illustrators to work with him - and garner many awards along the way. The assignment was wide open, as long as the art is frog related. I was real happy he asked me to do this one, but I only had about a week to finish … after getting a few other assignments done and out the door. It came about just when I was experimenting with a new sketchbook style, so I had a clear vision of where I wanted to go. This remains one of my portfolio favorites. Recognition includes: Society of Illustrators, 3X3 Illustration Annual, Luerzer’s Archive Top 200 Illustrators Worldwide.
7’ x 20’ mural painted on-site at the Boston offices of Beacon Communities. I serve on the boards of a few Boston Arts organizations. One function is to explore ideas for artists in the area for projects such as this, and one of my co-board members and I worked the concept up.
Calendar cover for Half Price Books - which includes some details of the interior illustrations for each of the twelve months.
D.J. Stout of Pentagram Design thought a California brag map might be a good solution for this wraparound cover, after Santa Clara University was voted Best in the West. I was happy to comply. One of the challenges was to get Santa Clara University on the front cover, but also show all of California somehow. Love this sort of assignment.
Illustration on unique classes offered at the University of Alabama. I enjoy this sort of assignment which includes some hand-lettering in an open page design.
First Interstate Bank commissioned me to create six large posters for an advertising campaign. This was an assignment that lasted over fifteen months. Each map has about one hundred separate details - and each requiring various reference from which to work. A challenge to keep everything in order(!). Details from the six posters (MT, SD, WY, WA, OR, and ID) are used across media - newspaper, magazine, web, billboards and animation. This series has received recognition from The Society of Illustrators, American Illustration, Communication Arts, 3X3 Illustration Annual.
I created this cover image along with six full page illustrations in a sketchbook style of 92 impacts of The Civil Rights Act of 1964 for American University Magazine. The series exhibited at The Society of Illustrators, and also received recognition from 3X3 Illustration Annual.
